Missing Communication Ports Option on Windows 11 ARM #1243

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Navigate to Action > Add legacy hardware.
  3. Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced).
  4. Choose Ports (COM & LPT).

Expected behavior:

The Communication Ports option should be available to configure COM ports.

Actual behavior:

The Communication Ports option is not displayed on Windows 11 ARM devices because the required drivers, serial.sys and serenum.sys, are missing from the system32\drivers directory.

Question:

Is there any plan to include these drivers or provide a solution for enabling COM ports on Windows 11 ARM?

Additional context:

Other people have also asked this question in the community: I want to use legacy serial line to connect old devices, but there hasn't been any substantial response. It would be nice to have some acknowledgment from Microsoft that this discrepancy exists as a first step, before they can take further steps to fix it!

@microsoft/coreos-buses-and-wdf Hi is it expected or a bug that this communication port option is missing on Windows 11 ARM?
